ABOUT DR. LITTLEFIELD Continuing Education Over the past thirty years I have logged between 30 and 90 clock hours of continuing education each year in areas relating to family psychology, forensic psychology, family systems medicine, sexuality and sex therapy, sexual trauma and recovery, addictions, and psychopharmacology. In 2000 and 2001 I completed a certification program in addictions training at the Meadows Institute in Phoenix, AZ. In 1991 I completed a four-year program of advanced study in the Bowen Family Systems Theory with the Minnesota Institute for Family Dynamics, which met four times each year in Minneapolis for a total of 120 hours annually. Faculty members have included the late Murray Bowen, M.D., Michael Kerr, M.D., Dan Papero, Ph.D., and Mary Bourne, MSW. During the summers of 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1997 I was director of programs of study in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico. In the summer of 1995, 1996, and 1997 I taught graduate courses at the Center entitled "Family Psychology, Language, and Culture". From 1997 to 2002 I worked as a clinical and research pro-bono consultant with the people of New London, Texas who lost over 300 children in an explosion of the school in 1937. In 2004 I worked pro-bono with the Moscow (Russia) Institute for Family Psychology and Psychotherapy to train masters level therapists in family therapy, alcoholism, and family violence. I have recently been invited to return to Moscow for similar pro-bono work and also to travel to Beslan, Russia to work with the families who sustained losses of their children in the recent terrorist attack on their school.
I am one of eight nationally board-certified family psychologists in the Southwest. In 1997 the Texas Psychological Association named me their Professor of the Year. In 1999 the Dallas Psychological Association named me their Distinguished Psychologist of the Year. Over the past five years my pro-bono work with individuals and community agencies has increased such that about 10 to 20 percent of my time is devoted to causes that reflect me passions and my clinical interests. I plan to retire from professional activities in the year 2038. By that time I expect to have finally become fluent in Spanish.
